Media Advisory – Lobbyist Registry Launch
Released: 2016-08-19
The Office of the Registrar of Lobbyists will be holding a media conference on Monday, August 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Legislative Building (Room 8).
Established in 2015, the Office of the Registrar of Lobbyists is responsible for administering the Lobbyists Act, ensuring that lobbyists who are attempting to influence provincial public office holders register their activities. The purpose of the Act is to enhance the integrity and accountability of government by fostering openness and transparency about who is attempting to influence the decisions made by public office holders. The Lobbyists Registry is the foundation of the Office and the legislation. It is accessed through our website and will document lobbyist activities in Saskatchewan and who is involved in lobbying. Work to create awareness of the legislation via the website and to build the database required for the website is complete. The legislation will come into effect on August 23, 2016 and the Registry will be launched that day. Mr. Ronald Barclay, Registrar of Lobbyists and Conflict of Interest Commissioner, will take the opportunity to provide clarification of the requirements and responsibilities of the legislation and a demonstration of the website will be available.
Background material will be provided at the media conference.
